Proposed Location for BSC

The recent debate in the university community about the Bicentennial Student Center (BSC) has been disappointing largely because many of the facts have been lost in a list of concerns about other aspects of the university. The solace I have is that when all the facts are laid to bare there is little doubt that the BSC is immediately necessary. However, it is essential that we find a responsible way to fund the BSC that will not handicap the overall mission of Miami.

It is important to consider everything in a broader historical context especially when fears run high due to difficult economic conditions.This week,  I wrote an essay in The Miami Student comparing the Bicentennial Student Center to the Recreational Sports Center project started nearly 20 years ago.
