Selected Work Experiences
May – August 2010 – Jim Tracy for Congress – Cookeville, TN
Field Director. Managed all campaign operations for 5 counties in Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. Organized a fundraiser netting over $30,000. Set up town hall meetings and day trips in high target cities. Drafted press releases for events. Recruited volunteers to make phone calls and go door-to-door to meet weekly quotas. Targeted voters for direct mail. Attend local events representing the campaign.
Summer 2009 – Miami University – Oxford, Ohio
Intern for Office of Institutional Relations. Performed legislative research and created reports on the budget for the State of Ohio in relation to Miami’s priorities. Met weekly with vice-presidents to better understand Miami University’s priorities. Prepared assignments for lobbying course for first-year students.
Summer 2008 – Congressman John Boehner – Washington, D.C.
Intern. Researched legislative issues for Minority Leader’s Office including the “Energy Scorecard.” Wrote memos and constituent letters for Legislative Assistants. Performed services for constituents including: tours of U.S. Capitol, research for district offices, and logging correspondence in IQ. Certified by the Congressional Research Service. Assisted in setup for Republican members’ dinners in Capitol.
Summer 2007 – Cash Express, LLC – Cookeville, Tennessee
Manager of Sign Shop & Construction. Led a team of five people in completing sign orders for over 230 stores. Reorganized the workflow of the Sign Shop for optimal performance and reduced queued orders by 90%. Led a team of four people to construct build-outs and furnish new stores in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio. Created store furnishing setup system to reduce costs of store openings.
2006-2007 Academic Year – Miami University – Oxford, Ohio
Resident Assistant in Leadership & Excellence Community. Worked with 34 first-year students to set community standards. Developed two monthly corridor programs and community improvement projects. Worked with 12 other resident assistants and 3 supervisors in a team environment to support residents.
Leadership Experiences
2008-2010 Academic Years – Associated Student Government – Oxford, Ohio
Student Body President. Won with 71% of the vote, the largest percent win ever for a contested position. Led a team of 13 executives to create 4-year strategic goals for student government and a subsequent 1-year implementation plan. Wrote opinions and essays in The Miami Student raising awareness of and responding to campus issues. Led a campaign to support increased fees of $220 per year for 25+ years for a $77 million student center and received 75% approval of students. Oversaw a $973,000 budget.
Vice-President of Student Organizations. Defeated the incumbent with 54% of the vote. Managed and set budgetary priorities for $973,000. Created a comprehensive online funding application & records system (www.muasg.com/funding) for student organizations. Offered training sessions for 200 student leaders on funding, programming, and event management. Decided funding allocations for over 350 organizations three times during the academic year. Reduced student organization debt by $120,000.
2006-2008 Academic Years – College Republicans – Oxford, Ohio
Co-Chairman. Oversaw event planning and training of new Executive Board members. Planned Conservative Week 2007, which included bringing Former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, Jr. to campus. Supported campaigns in Butler County for 15 hours weekly, including work for Margot Halcomb & Chuck Furmon. Member of the Butler County Republican Central Committee.
Treasurer. Oversaw all off campus fundraising and funding provided by Associated Student Government, a total budget of $55,000 annually. Organized CPAC 2007 trip for 90 club members and Conservative Week 2007, which included bringing Former UN Ambassador John Bolton to campus. Campaigned weekly for former Congressman Steve Chabot and gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell.
