Miami Issues

This coming year presents many challenges for students, but within these challenges lie many opportunities. A sophomore residency requirement will change the student experience of sophomores on campus and fraternity men off campus. A greater need for cultural competency is increasingly obvious in a world with ever more competitive job markets. Class sizes in many courses are increasing, harming the attention to individual learning that has set Miami above the competition.  Below are specifics about how we want to address important Miami issues:

Sophomore Residency Requirement
Academics
Services
Diversity

Finances

Our university is going through many financial challenges that threaten the Miami experience as we know it. Students need leadership that is proactive in confronting the administration to ensure that the student experience remains strong. We are the only candidates who have the experience and vision needed to truly address students’ many concerns.  We have many ideas for improving this financial situation:

Representation
Sustainability
Socially Responsible Investing
Debt Relief

Safety

Over the last three years it has become apparent within the Miami community that there is a greater need for increased safety and security while still respecting the personal freedoms of students and residents. Far too many assaults, burglaries, and rapes occur in Oxford for students to turn a blind eye anymore. We are proposing bold initiatives on Miami’s campus and in Oxford to address these concerns:

Self Defense Courses
Increased Miami Door-to-Door
Emergency Towers
Off Campus Lighting

Technology

Rapidly changing technology and innovation are increasingly making our daily lives easier. As the world becomes evermore interconnected and paperless, we should expect our University to adapt to these changes. As such, embracing technology not only cuts the cost of doing business, it is also environmentally friendly. These are just a few of the innovations that we are working on to improve the daily lives of students:

OXIO
Integrated Student Organization Website
Online Study Space Reservation
Student Technology Fee

Oxford Community

Last November, students were able to make a positive difference in the Oxford community not only through their continuing philanthropic and volunteer efforts, but also through the ballot box.  Local issues, such as the recently-passed Talawanda High School bond issue, have a profound impact on students’ daily lives. Accordingly, we must ensure that the students’ voices are heard on all issues that are important to them and ensure that Oxford City Council represents more than just non-student Oxford residents. Specifically, we must use this opportunity to work with the City and community for everyone’s benefit, including the following:

Student Voting
Sidewalks
Open Community Forums
Community Service
